Job Description
The Permitting Project Manager oversees all aspects of permitting for large-scale fiber optic infrastructure (FTTH) and telecommunications projects across IL, WI, and MN. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution, ensuring timely and compliant permit submittals while fostering strong relationships with permitting authorities and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and implement permitting strategies to support project construction timelines.
- Build and maintain relationships with city, county, state, and federal permitting agencies.
- Manage vendors for the preparation, review, and tracking of permit applications for aerial and underground network expansion.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and agency standards.
- Virtual meetings with state, city, RR, ODOT authorities on a regular cadence.
- Proactively communicate with new and existing permitting authorities to understand expectations, standards, and timelines on a regular, proactive cadence.
- Interface with internal teams (engineering, legal, and construction) to resolve systemic issues and improve permit quality.
- Maintain and regularly update permit tracking systems (e.g., SiteTracker) to reflect submittal status, lead times, and approvals.
- Report weekly on submittals, outstanding permits, and hurdles during construction planning meetings.
- Manage and mentor permitting coordinators or support staff as needed.
- Stay informed of regulatory updates that could impact project timelines or scope.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in permitting, project management, or related fields within telecommunications or infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of WI, IL, MN permitting processes, ideally with existing agency relationships.
- Demonstrated experience with FTTH or similar large-scale telecom deployments.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Proficiency with permit tracking tools and project management software.
