Job Description:
A Capacity and Bandwidth Engineer in the telecom industry is responsible for planning, analyzing, and optimizing network resources to ensure that the network can efficiently handle current and future data traffic demands. This role is vital for maintaining network performance, scalability, and quality of service (QoS) while managing costs.

- Performance monitoring: Continuously monitor the performance and utilization of network infrastructure, such as core networks, radio access networks (RAN), and transmission links.
- Network optimization: Identify and resolve network bottlenecks and resource shortages to improve overall efficiency. This may involve recommending configuration changes, hardware upgrades, or new network designs.
- Resource management: Track and manage network assets and leased capacity, including fiber infrastructure and equipment inventory.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including network operations, sales, product management, and finance, to gather requirements and communicate network capabilities.
- Reporting: Create and present regular reports and dashboards detailing network utilization, performance metrics, and capacity projections to stakeholders and management.
- Solution design: Evaluate and design network architecture solutions, including new tower deployments or upgrades, to support growing demand and emerging technologies like 5G.
- Automation: Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline the collection of network data and analysis for capacity and performance analytics.
Key skills and qualifications
- Technical expertise: Deep knowledge of network architecture and protocols, including cellular technologies (2G/3G/4G/5G), IP, and optical networking.
- Analytical skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data, create traffic models, and perform feasibility studies.
- Tool proficiency: Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds), capacity planning software (e.g., Atoll, Planet), and data analysis applications.
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication to explain complex technical concepts and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Problem-solving: Ability to proactively identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and recommend solutions to prevent service-affecting issues.
- Educational background: A bachelor’s degree in a technology field, such as electrical engineering or computer science, is typically required.
